OSSO Social Sand Volleyball 4s Rules

General League Information
A team must have a minimum of 6 players on the roster.
A minimum of 1 female is required on the court at all times.
In the case of severe weather, official cancellation notices will be sent via email or text between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
Teams must use the designated volleyballs provided by OSSO.
Pregame
A minimum of 4 players must be present to begin a match, including at least 1 female.
Only players listed on your official team roster may play for your team for the game to count.
Roster checks may be enforced at any time.
If a team plays with a substitute who is not on the roster:
The game will be recorded as an automatic forfeit.
Teams may still play the game and use the court during their allotted time slot, but it will count as a loss.
If a team is more than 10 minutes late:
That team will forfeit the entire match, all 3 sets.
The team may still play during their allotted time slot for fun.
They may also be expected to buy beers for the opposing team.
Captains or designated players will use rock paper scissors to determine which team serves first.
All players must be wearing their designated OSSO team uniform.
Scoring and Match Rules
Matches are played as best of 3 sets.
Set 1 to 21 points
Set 2 to 21 points
Set 3 to 15 points
All sets must be won by 2 points.
Point caps apply:
Sets 1 and 2 cap at 25
Set 3 caps at 19
Rally scoring is used.
A point is awarded every time the ball touches the ground.
All games are self reffed.
Scores are kept by the competing teams.
Teams must report scores to the League Coordinators.
Failure to report scores will result in the match being recorded as a 1 to 1 draw.
Matches are scheduled in 40 minute time slots.
Teams should warm up before their scheduled game time.
Be ready to begin play as soon as the court becomes available.
Game Play Rules
Have fun.
Teams are allowed a maximum of 3 hits before returning the ball over the net.
- When it’s 2 hits or less and over, any combination of players may hit the ball
- In any 3 hit combination, at least 2 genders are required to be one of those touches.
Failure to meet this requirement results in a point awarded to the opposing team.
Blocking or attacking the serve is not allowed.
Attacking the serve occurs when, on the first contact of a serve, a player leaves the ground and contacts the ball above shoulder height with one or two hands at a downward angle.
Breaking the plane of the net is not allowed unless actively blocking.
Players may not reach over the net into the opponent’s side unless blocking an attack.
Lifts are allowed unless deemed excessive.
A lift occurs when the ball remains in the player’s hands too long, similar to catching.
Do not catch and throw the ball.
A player may not touch the ball two consecutive times.
A block does not count as a touch.
If the ball touches the out of bounds line, it is considered in.
If teams cannot agree on whether a ball was in or out, the point will be replayed.
Balls must be returned between the antennas.
Incidental or minor contact with the net is allowed unless deemed excessive.
Full arm or chest contact with the net is considered excessive.
Interfering with players under the net is not allowed.
Landing under the net without interfering with an opposing player is allowed.
Teams must rotate servers.
All players on the court must serve in rotation.
When a receiving team wins a point:
That team gains the serve.
The next player in the serving order serves.
If disagreements arise during play, teams will replay the point.
Teams must rotate players in and out in a set order.
Each player must serve and receive equal playing time.
One player exits the court as one player enters during rotation.
OSSO Code of Conduct
Lighthearted trash talking is permitted.
Personal profanity directed at another individual will result in disciplinary action.
First offense results in a warning.
A second offense results in ejection.
Repeat offenses result in suspension.
Suspension length is determined on a case by case basis.
Racial slurs, hate speech, or discriminatory language of any kind will result in:
Immediate ejection
Complete suspension
Removal from the league
This applies to players, spectators, and anyone involved with the game.
Physical violence of any kind including fighting, shoving, or intentional aggression will result in:
Immediate ejection
Complete suspension
Removal from the league
This applies to players, spectators, and anyone involved with the game.
Disputes
Captains may request a meeting with the opposing Captain and the League Coordinator or Official to resolve disputes.
If a call goes in your team’s favor incorrectly, Captains should speak up to correct it.
Behavior Toward Officials
Arguing with or disrespecting officials will result in a warning.
A second offense results in ejection.
Repeat offenses result in suspension.
Suspension length is determined on a case by case basis.
League Values
OSSO is a social sports league that values fun and community above all else.
Mistakes and missed calls will happen.
These should be accepted with grace.
Our goal is to provide a fun, inclusive, and fair environment for all participants.
Pearl Beach – Tulsa is a completely 21+ facility. Children are not allowed in the facility.
